IMMA Collection Freud Project 2016 – 2021

The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) has acquired 50 works by world renowned artist Lucian Freud (1922 -2011). IMMA is based at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham which is just a short 7 minute drive from The Clarence Hotel. Home of the national collection of modern and contemporary art in Ireland, IMMA aims to provide all of its visitors with an enjoyable and captivating experience.

IMMA Collection: Freud Project features 30 of the artist’s paintings and 20 works on paper. All 50 works will be on display over the first year with a series of different exhibitions with a new programme of events opening each year after.

The collection dates mainly from 1970 onwards with his works reflecting his interest in people and the natural world. Represented in some of his work are members of his family; his children, grandchildren, his mother and other artists.

Over the five year loan the works will be on display in a dedicated Freud centre in IMMA’s beautiful Garden Galleries.

The exhibition will be on display until mid-October 2017.

Beyond Caravaggio

The National Gallery of Ireland home to the national collection of European and Irish fine art, is currently displaying a new exhibition on the works and influences of Caravaggio – Beyond Caravaggio.

Caravaggio has been widely praised for his influence in the revolution of painting during the Baroque period. His use of dramatic light and realism in his paintings was a technique that had not been widely seen before.

The exhibition brings together 40 unique pieces of work from the National Gallery, London, the National Gallery of Ireland and the National Galleries of Scotland. The exhibition provides a rare opportunity to see the works of Caravaggio and of those who adopted his ideas and developed their own art.

Beyond Caravaggio is open now in The National Gallery of Ireland until the 14 May 2017.
