A dash of culture at The Project Arts Centre and a divebar pint in Garage Bar

Directly across from the rear entrance to the hotel is The Project Arts Centre, Ireland’s leading centre for contemporary arts in Ireland. With two performance spaces and a Gallery, The Project is a wonderful multi-disciplinary arts venue that programmes visual art, theatre, dance, and music as well as engaging live art events, talks and discussions. It is well worth a visit if you are spending a few days in Dublin and during Summer 2014 there are a wealth of activities to enjoy. From July 18 to mid-September, the Centre will host the challenging multi-faceted work The Centre For Dying on Stage #1 which includes visual art, performance art, sculpture and live art experiences. These events will be a fantastic insight into the contemporary Irish arts scene. Enjoy the spellbinding Human Child by  Collapsing Horse Theatre Company which runs on July 24 & 25 and is based on W.B. Yeat’s Stolen Child. With live music, puppetry and a magnificent set, this will be a magical experience for all the family, a treasured memory of time spent in Dublin.  On August 7, Tom Swift presents The Dead, a new interpretation of James Joyce’s seminal short story, given an operatic treatment. Four singers accompanied by a string quartet perform this exploration of life, love and mortality. The performances are free and you can book a ticket two weeks in advance. While on East Essex Street be sure to pop into Garage Bar for an authentic sawdust dive-bar experience. Possibly the coolest little bar in Dublin, order a pint of craft on draught and play a few rounds of Street Fighter on their arcade machines or simply soak up the sun on the oil barrels and watch daily Dublin life go by to a soundtrack of surf and Motown.
